Course Description
The two day training class on live investigations and OnLine Digital Forensic Suite covers the following topics:
- The investigative value of live investigations;
- The differences between live forensic investigations and traditional forensic analysis of hard drive images;
- The components of a live investigation, with emphasis on acquisition and analysis of volatile machine state data, accessing the live registry data and acquiring the full registry, acquiring and analyzing RAM from a live running system and access to the hard drive to perform live searches, file and/or folder acquisitions and imaging of the hard drive across the network;
- Automated investigation logging and audit capabilities of OnLineDFS with emphasis on the annotation capability, the investigation report and the inquiry log;
- The administrative features of OnLineDFS including user and inquiry management, administrative and user passwords, date/time settings and network configurations;
- A full day of lab exercises where students will be presented with a series of "real world scenarios" to solve using OnLineDFS, ranging from suspected employee misbehavior, identifying the existence of malware on a system, and determining the extent to which a system has been compromised through a network attack and/or an insider's actions.
Upon successful completion of the written and practical exam, a "Certified OnLine Digital Forensic Suite Investigator" certificate will be presented.
